The Dictionary

The Dukaw Project presents Wudu - a dictionary of Liberian languages. This section of Dukaw will focus on native Liberian languages as well as resources to enable appreciation, learning, and usage of these languages.

The first few phases are focused on the Bassa (Bhasaw) language, as we develop its alphabet and a full dictionary of terms and phrases. Regardless, the dictionary is designed to add other languages within a short period. Given the right content, we can onboard a new language in a few weeks.

This work is done by volunteers who embrace and thrive to encourage the visibility and use of the native Liberian languages. Use the links below to view the Bassa Alphabet or to connect with us and volunteer on the project. Together we can create an amazing resource with all of the Liberian languages that can be used by various sectors of the Liberian population.

The goal of the dictionary project is to provide a central language platform with resources that promote and facilitate learning of the Liberian languages to keep them alive and pass this aspect of our identity to the younger generations.
